ERICH 2027 is coming to Dresden!

Indoor rowing elite comes to Saxony – Dresden to host the 2027 European Rowing Indoor Championships (ERICH), presented by Concept2.

The European Indoor Rowing Championships return in 2027 as an in-person event. After the championships were most recently held as an online event, ERICH 2027 will bring athletes, officials, fans and partners back together at a shared competition venue in the Saxon capital of Dresden from January 22 to 24, 2027. At the BallsportARENA, ERICH 2027 will gather the elite of European indoor rowing while underlining the growing importance of the discipline within the wider rowing community.

In addition, the event provides the framework for further competitions that benefit from the international character of the event and a broad audience. Alongside the German Championships and the Central German Championships on the ergometer, a School Cup and a Corporate Cup are also on the programme. This makes the event not only a stage for top performances, but also a meeting point for young talent, recreational sport and the regional club landscape.

"The return of the European Rowing Indoor Championships as an in-person event is fantastic news for the entire indoor rowing community. These championships thrive on atmosphere, togetherness and shared experiences. Dresden offers an outstanding setting to revive this energy in 2027."

Vincent Gaillard, CEO World Rowing

"For the first time, the European Rowing Indoor Championships will be held in Germany – a special occasion for our sport and a strong signal for the rowing tradition in our country. For the German Rowing Federation, it is a wonderful opportunity to showcase elite sport, youth development and the diversity of our sport to a wide audience, and to underline the growing importance of indoor rowing in Europe."

Robert Sens, Director of Elite Sport, German Rowing Federation

"Dresden is proud to host the 2027 European Rowing Indoor Championships, presented by Concept2. As a city with great passion, particularly for rowing, and a long tradition of hosting major sporting events, we look forward to offering athletes and fans from across Europe an unforgettable experience."

Jan Donhauser, First Mayor of Dresden

"Copenhagen, Prague, Paris – and now Dresden! We are delighted to join the list of host cities alongside various European capitals. The European Rowing Indoor Championships format brings elite sport to our rowing-enthusiastic Saxony in January 2027. We deliberately chose to use this framework to bundle multiple championships and see the event as a great opportunity to present our sport, including its indoor rowing facet, to a wide audience."

Holger Hoffmann, President of the Saxon Rowing Federation

"The ergometer is the most honest way to test your own performance in summer and winter alike, pushing boundaries again and again – without any external influences. As a native of Dresden, I am particularly pleased that the 2027 European Rowing Indoor Championships will be held in my hometown. Dresden offers an ideal stage to showcase indoor rowing at the highest level and bring the sport closer to a wide audience."

Karl Schulze, Olympic Champion 2012 and 2016

"Live competitions are always the highlight for me, even though I occasionally compete online. Indoor rowing is simply my sport – from the mixed relay at the World Games 2017 to the silver medal at the Indoor World Championships 2024, I have experienced many special moments. The fact that the 2027 European Rowing Indoor Championships will take place in Dresden, my adopted home for over 13 years, makes the event even more special: I can show what I'm made of and compete against Europe's best athletes."

Yvonne Apitz, Competitor

"After my victories at the Central German Ergometer Championships in 2025 and 2026, competing at the 2027 European Rowing Indoor Championships in Dresden is a great opportunity. It is something special to showcase my performance on this big stage and measure myself against athletes from all over Europe – right on my doorstep."

Lukas Haaser, Bronze Medallist at the U23 World Championships 2025

Further information on the competition programme and registration deadlines for ERICH 2027, presented by Concept2, will be announced shortly.
